Parish Alanje was characterized in its early years by his great wealth was famous for its many properties, especially cattle ranches, among which stood out: Santa Barbara, Las Animas, Hands Died, San Antonio, Santa Rita and Nuestra Señora del Carmen. In 1841, the church of Bocas del Toro was part of the Parish of Alanje
During the War of a Thousand Days (1899-1902), it was found the General Manuel Quintero Villareal in Alanje battle fought and won the April 2, 1902 on the Plains of San Pablo conservative forces of the Colombian government.
